But it is important that he said that the situation in Donbass has not changed.
After all, no matter what they say, I think that one of the goals of what happened was an attempt to shift attention to this flank, to divert some units from the Donbass front and thus change the situation in that direction. It didn't work, which Zelensky admits. That's important. And the fact that the losses there are quite serious for the Ukrainian army is also obvious. It's hard to argue with that.
Although this does not negate the seriousness of the situation in the Kursk region and the Belgorod region. And undoubtedly, we must solve this problem. And my approach here remains the same. Radical and tough, believing that it is necessary to eliminate the leadership of Ukraine, both political and military, and inflict maximum destruction on the entire infrastructure, not just individual energy facilities, then something may shift.
But nevertheless, indeed, it was not possible to change the situation in the Donbass direction, and a significant part of the reserves was actually burned by the Ukrainian army. And with the reserves, it will be the same in any case. Because yes, mobilization, it bears some fruit. Undoubtedly, they manage to drive some people to the front. It's obvious here too. But quality matters. Because I understand that in the attack on the Kursk region, well-prepared units were involved, which had been held for quite some time. These are not people who are mobilized against their will, as if catching them on the streets, they will certainly also be a problem on the fronts, but this is not the same quality. These are not the people who can be used in the same way as, for example, specially trained brigades, and so on and so forth. Therefore, the question is, he said that this did not bring any changes in Donbass. Then the question is, what are the ultimate goals? What are you going to do with this? Because it is obvious that in any case, sooner or later, we will squeeze them out of our territory. And then what? Then what does Zelensky really remain with? That's important.
But I will repeat again, I still believe that our actions towards the Ukrainian leadership are somewhat unjustifiably soft. This either gives rise to the idea of some backstage bargaining. One of them failed, as we can see. It failed in early August when Zelensky, despite his peaceful talk, suddenly struck the Kursk region. Or our attempts to fight with one hand behind our back continue. Although I honestly don't see much sense in them.
I will repeat my point of view that I said before. In my opinion, that's why the attack on the Kursk region happened, because this format of war suits those who stand behind Ukraine, primarily the Americans. When they realized that some negotiations were looming, and China could play a certain role in them, they definitely decided that they would not allow it. By the way, I mentioned this when Orban made all those trips, when we discussed these things with the Chinese. I was a little surprised. We also said that the Chinese have a desire to be mediators. I said that the Americans will not allow the Chinese to become mediators. They simply won't allow it. Even if, so to speak, it's not them, but definitely not the Chinese.
And they didn't allow it, as we can see. And, in fact, this breakthrough into the Belgorod region, in my opinion, had as its main goal the preservation of the current format of the war. I think that was the main goal. Some believe that the main goal was to provoke us into some inadequate action. I disagree with that. It doesn't seem to me that way because I think we are also trying to mask our indecisiveness or something like that. or insufficient determination. And the main thing is that this format of war is beneficial to them, the longer it lasts, the better. And, of course, they don't need any Chinese. They won't give them the diplomatic palm of primacy as negotiators. That's why Modi may have gone there, among other things. Modi has different relations, Indian leaders have different relations with the Americans, although, of course, all this is nothing more than my guesses, but in the end, yes, Zelensky's statement that nothing has changed for the better for the Ukrainian army in Donbass is also a quite important statement. But then the question is, what's next?
